Anime storytelling transcs geographical boundaries due to its universal language among fans that fosters a deep connection based on shared pictorial meanings. Our symposium seeks to reevaluate contemporary anime storytelling by scrutinizing favored visual expressions and exploring their implications.

This event forge Southeast Asian connections with anime through formal presentations and informal discussions, thereby nurturing a community that combines academic research, pedagogy, and learning.

The two-and-a-half-day program includes practitioners from Southeast Asia analyzing the impact of Japanese anime on their es along with challenges and opportunities encountered. Scholars in related fields will delve into innovative methodologies in visual culture studies, examining how anime serves as a product, lifestyle, and form of expression across episodic series, cinema, and online platforms.
