When the world was on pause due to COVID-19, I found myself embarking on a journey with my brother that neither of us had ever experienced before. Our paths usually crossed at the dining table or in our bedroom as we rushed through homework and studying during school days, but this time was different.
As his senior year loomed large ahead in front of him, so did the looming pressures of preparing for college. But amidst all the chaos, I stepped into an unexpected role: a secret confidant. We both found ourselves talking about everything from his future drea his fears surrounding the unknowns that lie ahead. And even though we were locked down, this time became our own bubble filled with shared laughter and understanding.
The world seemed bleak outside of our window as news about infections grew louder by the day but inside our room, a different story was unfolding; it was a tale filled with light and connection. The lockdown gave us precious hours that we could dedicate to exploring the vast oceans of entertnment together, from movies to series, and of course, the world of comics.
Among all this, we found ourselves immersed in evil comics - not the kind you'd expect for a family evening but rather something that allowed our imaginations to run wild and our minds to engage with stories on another level. As the days passed by, I couldn't help but notice how these narratives mirrored real-life situations that seemed distant from our lives yet strangely relatable.
In these comic worlds, there were heroes fighting battles agnst villns, similar to the challenges we faced dly as siblings who were both preparing for their own versions of the future. There was also an element of escapism that brought us closer together, allowing us to see beyond the screens and connect on a deeper level about life's hardships.
Over these eight months, our bond grew stronger than ever before, thanks in part to this shared fascination with the darker side of entertnment. The comics we devoured became more than just stories; they were bridges that carried us through our fears into each other's company, making it easier for us to discuss everything from his college decisions to my own personal struggles.
As the world began to reopen and life returned to its usual frenetic pace, I realized how much this period had taught me. It wasn't just about the brotherly bond strengthening during those long stretches of lockdown but also about finding solace in the most unexpected places – even a series of comic books filled with tales of evil.
The experience served as a reminder that there's always light to be found, even in the darkest chapters of life. And perhaps more importantly, it showed me the power of shared experiences in times of adversity – even if they involve sitting in our room watching an evil anime marathon.
In the , the pandemic gave us time to explore and appreciate each other on a new level. It may have been a season of lockdowns, but for my brother and I, it became a period that allowed our connection to flourish like never before.
